BYS Slide Tackle Policy
Blackford Youth Soccer prioritizes player safety, age-appropriate development, and proper defensive technique. Slide tackling is governed by the Laws of the Game with the following league-specific age adaptations.
U10
Slide tackling is NOT permitted in games or practices.
Any player who goes to ground in an attempt to dispossess an opponent will be penalized.
An indirect or direct free kick will be awarded at the referee’s discretion.
Repeated violations may result in removal from play.
At this age, players are developing balance, coordination, and spatial awareness. Defensive positioning and standing tackles are emphasized over sliding challenges.
U12
Slide tackles are permitted only when performed safely and under control.
A legal slide tackle must clearly contact the ball first.
Be made from the side or front.
Not endanger the opponent.
Not involve studs-up contact.
Tackles from behind, reckless slides, or challenges that endanger player safety will result in a direct free kick and may result in a caution.
Referees are instructed to prioritize safety over advantage.
U15
Slide tackles are permitted under standard Laws of the Game.
Careless challenges result in a direct free kick.
Reckless challenges may result in a caution (yellow card).
Excessive force may result in ejection (red card).
Players at this level are expected to demonstrate control, proper timing, and respect for opponent safety.
Coach Responsibilities
